Welcome to the Atari Downloads part of the site! This collection is all stuff I've tried and tested, usually repacked straight from my hard drive (so hopefully there won't be any broken archives). Hopefully I have something for everyone here, I've tried to get a good balance of stuff. I've got some Soundtracker MODules on as well, which can be played on PCs and Macs too (if you've a PC or a Mac you'll have to find a player yourself, sorry!). |

Sonoluminesenz by Avena. |
A classic demo for the Atari Falcon, I think it was the best Falcon demo ever released (until Hmmm! below!), but it's hard to find. Released at the Siliconvention party in 1997. Runs in RGB(TV) or Multisyncs, but not VGA (see below). Not tested on accelerated machines. Want to try Sonoluminesenz, but only have a VGA monitor? Then download the patch program, to be placed in the Sono folder, it'll enable you to see most (if not all) of the demo's effects in VGA. |
|
Bin-Liner by Tat of Avena. |
Ever wondered what became of the followup to Sonoluminesenz? Unfortunately the coder of Sono, Tat, has left the Atari scene, and the followup was never finished. However, some of the completed screens have been released, and I present them here, as the Bin-Liner preview. |
|
The Lost Blubb by Lazer. |
This demo won the Fried Bits 3 demo competition in 1995. Its rather big in size, but the graphics make up for it, featuring a digitized dancer and good vocals. |
|
Alive by FUN. |
Alive by FUN. This demo was second in the Falcon Demo section, at the Error In Line 1999 party, and scored 227 points, just 4 points short of the winner. This made me go "WOW!" when I saw it for the first time, the graphics are dazzlingly good. Falcon only. & |
|
Breath by Mystic Bytes. |
This demo was second in the ST Demo section at EIL'99. It's very similar to some of the Falcon demos, with bumpmaps and tunnels. Best of all it runs on STs AND Falcons, so all you ST owners can get benefit from this website! ;-)) If you run it from a Falcon, make sure you run from the ST-compatible low resolution mode, as otherwise the sound doesn't work (at least on my Falcon that is!). & |
|
Scene Music Compilation by Mystic Bytes. |
This is basically a demo with MODs from many Falcon demo crews, which were especially written for this demo. The music is top notch, with many different styles from rap to ambient. Falcon only. & |
|
Madness by Cream. |
This is a demo based around a new routine that emulates the PAULA soundchip found in Amigas. To demonstrate it a collection of 8 tunes from classic games have been used, a real nostalgic treat! Falcon only. On my Falcon I've found that I have to run it from ST-Low res, otherwise it crashes. & |
|
Jesterday by POV. |
This is another Falcon musicdemo, with 6 MODs, of excellent quality. I've found that I have to run it from TOS, with at least 256 colours, 16 colour mode doesn't work. & |
|
Mahabharata by Fit & Friends. |
This demo is very Asian influenced, so if you like this sort of World Music, then you'll like this demo. It features some very good graphical effects zooming in and out. Falcon only. & |
|
Silly Venture 2000 invite intro. |
This party was held early in the year 2000, but I include it here because it's a lovely example of how to put together a diskmagazine. The music is nice, and doesn't have you reaching for the volume control (unlike other diskmags, eh Maggie? :) ). And all the graphics are fab! Just move the mouse and the scrolling is really smooth. It's not all about the party, there is a nice history of the city of Gdansk in Poland (where the party was held) with photos of the sights. Falcon only. & |
|
Manschester Schwartzwurst by Fit & Friends. |
This is a new Falcon demo first shown at the recent 2 Alternative Party 2000. Featuring zooming graphics, reminescent of Mahabhrata, their earlier production, but much improved. Look out for the superbly ray-traced DUCK! I kid you not! :) Falcon only. & |
|
Cycedelic Knockout by The Mugwumps. |
This demo dates from 1994, but it's a real goody! I can't believe I've never seen it before! ;-)) If you're into Star Trek (the Next Generation), like me, then you'll love the intro! Falcon only. NB: If you're susceptible to epilepsy, beware that there are a lot of flashing lights! & |
|
Hmmm! by NO/Escape and 505/Checkpoint. |
This was the winner of the Falcon Demos competition at the Error in Line 2001 party, the followup to the hugely successful EIL'1999 party. In my honest opinion it is the demo which finally takes the crown of best Falcon demo ever from the still excellent Sonoluminesenz. Falcon only, RGB displays are recommended, but it's also runnable in 100Hz VGA mode. & |
|
Wait! by T.O.Y.S. |
This was 3rd in the Falcon Demos competition at the Error in Line 2001 party. Wait features MP2 music and great graphics. Falcon only. & |
|
Delta by Lineout. |
What? A new Falcon demo by a new crew? Well, yes and no. Lineout is a departure from FUN Industries, headed by Earx. This project was started in late 1999, and with the release date of the 4th of January 2003, means it has been in production over three years. This is probably the biggest Falcon demo ever seen, with about 50 screens and lasts 20 minutes. The demo was coded by Earx, and includes music by DForce, Earx, Frequent and Laxical (an Amiga musician). It is spread out over three parts, and although has some effects seen before, most are pushed beyond what they had before. However, having said that, there are many new effects, which outnumber the former ones seen before. The overall results are awesome.
I especially like the 3rd part, which has an marine organic feel to many of the screens. It opens with some starfish with waving arms which then leads into a ray-traced texture screen. Then we move onto some nice shellfish with Ammonite-like spiral shells and clams opening and closing. After this some really good pulsing jellies swim onto the stage.
Also seen are some really nice fractal ferns are waving as if in the wind. Followed by some fantasic amorphous 'blobs' which pulse and morph about. Watch out also for a growing molecule (possibly 'DNA'-alike?).
Towards the end of the 3rd part there are some great Julia fractals which flow and merge together, much the best fractal sets I have ever seen. But to leave the best to last, Earx has come up with some incredible spinning and rotating galaxies! Being interested in astronomy, I can identify a few types of galaxy including spiral and barred-spiral forms.
All in all, this demo has to be downloaded ! I have really gone overboard with this description, but I was so overwhelmed by it. Thanks Earx for doing this, it is a fantastic achievement. & |
|
_ by Escape. |
This is the winner of the recent Error In Line 2003, Falcon demo competition. Called "_", I shall refer to it as "Underscore"! ;-) It has some fabulous graphics, with some beatifully done ray tracing. Watch out for the famous Busy Bee, symbol from the TOS desktop, rendered as 3D cubes, with flapping wings. Music is great too, really atmospheric, and really well integrated with the graphics. & |

Potentially by MSG. |
This Protracker MOD file won the Protracker competition at EIL'99 with 320 points. |
|
Virgin Lands II by 505. |
This MOD was second at EIL'99, with 296 points. Though it is my favourite of the two MODs, both are excellent examples of good music. |

Fancy a silly mod? Well this one seems to have been written for a German guy called Steve, who is also a bit of a spamhead.....!! :) Intrigued? Well don't sit here reading this, download it and play it! |

MegaPlayer by Fatal Design. |
I recently discovered a better MOD player than the one that was here before (DSP_MOD). It too is a Falcon player that uses the DSP chip. It's called Mega Player. This however supports a wider range of module formats (MOD/MGT/S3M/669/MTM/OKT/ULT/DTM/XM). It plays them in 16-bit stereo at 49Khz. And is fully multitasking aware, supporting Drag-n-Drop and the AV protocols. Other good features include module lists, separate Oscilloscope and Spectrum Analyser windows. By Simplet of Fatal Design, it used to be shareware, but now has been released as Freeware. & |

FalcAmp v1.09 by Sector One. |
MPEG Layer-3 (better known as MP3) music files are getting more and more common on the Internet. Here's a player for these files for Falcons only. It's called FalcAmp and it works on all standard and accelerated Falcons, using the DSP chip. In this v1.09, comes the ability to change it's "skin". This means it's interface can be changed, with different graphics and button layouts. Following a competition five different skins have been designed, which can either be changed manually (by renaming as FAMP.RSC) or by pressing "#" to get a file selector to select a different skin. From v1.06, it includes two plugins that enables you to listen to streamed music (in MPEG format) over the Internet. I never thought that we would get an Atari to play these streamed music and radio stations. FalcAmp supports two types of webcasts: Icecast and Shoutcast. These two links go to sites where you can listen to some of these radio stations. You should use the fastest modem you can, otherwise you get cutouts but quality is excellent! Falcon only. & |

Whip! by Escape. |
Whip! by Escape, version 0.31. This is a great program that I've discovered. Released in June 1999, it's a Virtual Light Machine (VLM). Quite simply, you plug your CD player into the microphone socket of your Falcon (with your speakers in the headphones socket) and this program puts colourful patterns on screen, which pulse in time to the music! Very similar to Trip-a-Tron on the ST, or the Jaguar's CD Rom program, both written by Jeff Minter. The good thing about the program is that you can expand it with plugin modules, which the Atari Scene have been busy writing recently. My archive comes with all the modules released to date (19/6/99): 2D Bump, Analyser, Cascade, Classic, Flight, Julia, Nailspin, Reso, Tunnel, Twin, and Wire. The modules orignally included the source code, but I've taken this out to save space (if you want the source, then go to the Dead Hackers Society page to get the original archives). Falcon only. & |
|
New VLMs for Whip! |
Here are the latest batch of VLM modules for the Whip! program, as released upto 26/6/99. I've not included the source for each module, as with the main archive. Modules are Blur (converted from the Dream Dimension demo), Dotbox, Nailspin v1.2 (which is a later version than the one in the main archive), Sparkle, and Audio Pong which is the most original VLM to date! |

3D-Calc+ Spreadsheet by Frank Schoonjans |
Most computer platforms have several spreadsheet programs (a famous one on the PC is called Lotus 1-2-3), and the Atari is no exception. However up until now all the good ones have been commercial, and all the PD ones have quite frankly been crap! ;-)) However, recently one of the good ones has become Freeware! It's called 3D-Calc+. It reads Lotus 1-2-3 files, and has over 100 functions. I received an email from Frank Schoonjans to say that the program has been updated and the Manual is now available in two formats: Papyrus or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) formats. All three files are now on here too. This is the English version, however .rsc files are available for Dutch, German and French, from the author's website at www.wwwaxs.com/atari/. |

STinG v1.26 ST Internet Next Generation. :) |
This is version 1.26 of the premier freeware Atari TCP/IP stack (used for connecting to the Internet). Virtually everything has been updated, including the Dialler (now at v1.17). One of the Dialler's changes include being able to run as an Accessory, however this seems to have brought a new bug in that if you prefer to run it as an APP, when you Exit from the dialler it doesn't terminate properly. However, if you keep using v1.16 from the previous version this is fine. This is the full archive with all the Development Kit. In this archive only, I've added a Dialer SCR file for Zetnet, this (if you have a 33.6 or better modem, enables you to use Zetnet's digital lines, and has PAP login enabled (PAP doesn't need a login script, so is faster at logging in!), find it in the DIAL/ISP_SCR folder. Recently released is a new TCP.STX module for STinG v1.26. Now at v1.40, fixes a number of bugs, more efficient too and introduces features used in the Draconis emulator (below). Also released is a new STX module that emulates the Draconis TCP/IP stack. This enables you to use most of the Draconis clients under STinG! (An exception at the moment is Marathon, the email client, but this hopefully will be fixed in a later version.) To use it you need a copy of Draconis (not active), to be more specific, it's ETC folder, which contains files needed by most Draconis clients. Get a demo copy from Draconis Support website (German). Or to save you downloading the full package (991K) here is the ETC folder on it's own (should work!). NB: requires v1.40 of the TCP.STX as above. Also here now, is a useful utility from Gary Priest. Spawner is a program that will run any program you like from StinG's batch file. For example, use it to load and connect aICQ automatically after connection! Or you could use it to run Cab so that you don't have to remember to run it! |
|
mICQ v0.4.4 Patch 5 by Dan Ackerman. |
This is an updated version, which fixes the bug with the Contact List so that you can now see online users. Also fixed is the Auto_away Status bug. Need a guide to use the program? You won't do better than visit Jerry Martin's Atari ICQ Support Pages! More and more Atari users are using ICQ now, why not join us? If you get mICQ from here, send me a message to my UIN, 37135025, btw! If you have a UIN, please add it to Jerry Martin's Directory of Atari Users on ICQ. |
|
AtarICQ v0.159 by GokMasE & Dan Ackerman. |
AtarICQ is a GEM client for ICQ, however it's not based on mICQ above, it's a totally new program. Featuring colour mini icons and many nifty features, you won't want to use mICQ again! This is v0.159 of aICQ, which was released in August 2003. As usual many bugs have been fixed in this release. At last, you can change your Sound Preferences without editting the config files! :-) NB: if you would like a non-English RSC file for aICQ, visit the author's site at: www.ataricq.org. From v0.153e, aICQ now works with v8 of the ICQ protocol, which sorts out the problems that the previous versions had when Mirabilis dropped support for the v5 protocol. Therefore this is a absolute MUST download! Important note for those upgrading from v0.152e or older, read the Readme.1st file in the archive! aICQ Loader v0.91. This program when run from your Internet Dialler, checks to see if you've got aICQ already in memory, and if so makes it connect to the server. New from v0.91 it can also run from your dialler's disconnection script to automatically disconnect too. If you use StinG as your dialler, you need to use Spawner to run aICQload.prg, get it also from here! From aICQ v0.152 you can use a font selector to change the fonts used by the program. Here is Holger Weet's Font Selector to use this feature. Simply have the selector running and drag the font onto the aICQ window that you want the font to be changed. (read the aicq doc, as I think you may need to set an environment variable). From aICQ v0.148 you can use a colour selector. There are a few around, including one by Holger Weets, but here is GokMasE's version. This is v0.2 which fixes a few bugs and can be in the background when you drag colours into a supporting program's windows. If you get aICQ from here, send me a message to my UIN, 37135025, btw! If you have a UIN, please add it to Jerry Martin's Directory of Atari Users on ICQ. |
|
AtarIRC v1.28 by Lonny Pursell. |
This program gets updated quite regularly. Similar to mICQ/AtarICQ, this enables you to chat on IRC, which has quite a few Atarians chatting on channels #Atari and #AtariScne. The best time to come in for a chat, is Sunday evenings (European time) when many Atarians are about. Look out for me (I'm occasionally in there), my nickname is JazHaz, and say you've seen my site! :) This is v1.30. I'm not sure what has been changed since the last version I had on here, v1.28. But it's always worth having the latest version of this. aIRC is now shareware, (it was freeware before), but the registration is only five US Dollars. aIRC is well worth that small amount of money, easily payable via PayPal. The shareware version has a fifteen minute time limit, so you must register if you want to chat for longer than that. |
|
GAPftp v0.88 by Gary A. Priest. |
This FTP client is another client for STiK/StinG. Unlike all the other FTP clients it's a commandline TOS/TTP program, which makes it (in my opinion!) more powerful than the others, (for example you can run scripts!). I use it to update this website! |
|
Newsie v0.961 by John Rojewski. |
Newsie is a combined Email/News/FTP client program for the Stik/Sting range of TCP/IP stacks. It's getting a bit old now, but it's so easy to use, especially for beginners, that it is worth having. This is version 0.961 which was the last released version, from July 2000. When the previous v0.960 came out, John introduced an experimental feature that caused many problems. This archive has this feature disabled by default, and I have found that having this disabled, makes the program very stable. |
|
Highwire v0.1.6 by Highwire Development Team. |
This is Highwire, which hopefully will be the Internet browser to replace the good but dated CAB! This project is one of the most exciting around on our platform! This is version 0.1.6 which improves the cache handling, and lots of bug fixes as normal! NB: this includes the replaced 68000 (Normal) archive with another bugfix as released on 3/1/2004. Eventually the Highwire Development Team plan to add Javascript support, CSS stylesheets and many other features which will overtake CAB. Development is slow, but steady. |

Llamatron by Jeff Minter. |
A classic game for the ST is Llamatron, by Jeff Minter. Chris Gore was after this game, and though I hadn't played it for yonks (and I'm not sure whether it'll work on my Falcon) I thought I ought to put on here for him and for others. |
|
Dungeon Master level maps. |
One of my all time favourite games for the ST, is Dungeon Master. I recently got hold of a second hand copy of the game (my original was corrupt, after many years of use) and I needed to find some maps for it. Here are the maps I found, for all 14 levels of the game, in .gif format. |
|

Here is a spell list for Dungeon Master. This is a .gif picture of a papyrus scroll with the spells on it. |
|
Yukon by Dirk Haun. |
Patience card games have always been very popular, here's one that runs under virtually every modern operating system for the Atari, including MagiC. It has timed games and casino scored games, and three skill levels, and hiscore tables for each type (which get saved to disk too). It only has the most popular variant of patience - Klondike, but be warned it is addictive (I just stayed up until 2am playing it!!). You need a minimum res of 640x400 or higher, though you could use the card creator program included to draw smaller cards to fit in a lower resolution. |
|
Jet Set Willy by Software Projects. |
A classic game for the Sinclair Spectrum was Jet Set Willy, by Software Projects. Did you know that they did a version for the ST? It was never released, and thus is one of the rarest versions of the game around. It works fine on my Falcon, but it's a bit too fast there - I tried it under Backward and it was much better (speed about right). |
|
GodPey by Reservoir Gods. |
Reservoir Gods are one of the very few programming teams still making games for the Atari. This is their latest - a conversion of a Japanese console game called GunPey. It is a puzzle game, where the idea is to make lines from one side of the play area to the other. They can be a single line, or a combination of several lines linking with each other. To make lines you have to swap tiles, until you make a line. A line linking a lot of tiles scores highly. It has numerous different modes and challenges, and each mode has to be unlocked by scoring experience points. So to see all the modes and challenges that the game has to offer you have to play it a lot. It is very reminiscent of Tetris, and I think it approaches that game in addictiveness. A definate classic game, and it runs on all Atari ST/STE's, TT's, and Falcons with 1Mb of RAM. And even better, the new Reservoir Gods website has online high score tables for the game. You can send in your GODPEY.SAV files which contain your high score tables (email them to Mr Pink), and then you can get your best scores shown to the world! & |
|
Tautology 2 by Reservoir Gods. |
To go with GodPey (see above), I have also uploaded this puzzle game from Reservoir Gods. This game has been seen before under various names such as Match-It, Shanghai and Drachen. But this, I think, is the best version. It is a game of matching pairs of tiles, with different tile sets available including the traditional Mah Jhong set and more modern styles. Falcon only, it requires 4Mb of RAM. & |
|
NetHack v3.4.1 ported by Christian 'Marvin' Bressler. |
This is NetHack v3.4.1 for GEM! An absolute classic RPG game has recently been updated for the Atari. Magic spells and Monsters abound. You even have a pet to help you or for you to be cruel to (see Screenshot Three!) ;-) You haven't lived until you've died in NetHack! ;-) (now where have I heard that before....?!) It requires 2Mb of free RAM, and at least 3Mb of diskspace, so make sure you have enough! And also requires 640x480x16 colour mode at least. However I believe you can run in TTY mode with ascii characters for the 'graphics' in ST High (not as nice). This game looks very simple, however it has loads of depth! For help playing it, the best place to go is the Usenet newsgroup rec.games.roguelike.nethack. |

Essential UtilitiesQuick Index ST-Zip / TWP / Rez Fooler / Backward / Splitter | ||
STZip v2.6 by Vincent Pomey. |
STZip v2.6 is the classic Atari version of the famous ZIP compression utility from the PC. Everyone should have a copy of this, especially as I've used it to create the archives on the rest of this page. It doesn't support long filenames (nb: it WILL extract them, it just doesn't compress them) though, but not everyone with an Atari uses them anyway. It's compressed using itself, and converted to a self-extracting TOS program (using the ZIP2TOS utility in the archive). |
|
TWP v3.4 by Robert Best. |
Most Atarians use a word processor of some kind. In my experience most now either use Papyrus, or That's Write. I use the latter. But how can you share files with PC owners? With Papyrus you can save files as .RTF (Rich Text Format) which most if not all PC WP's can read. That's Write doesn't have that luxury. However, here is a nifty utility that can convert That's Write .TW files to Word Perfect format .WP files (MS Word can read these too) and vice versa. Included is a utility to convert Word Perfect graphics files to .IMG files for That's Write (and any other program that can use .IMG). |
|
Rez Fooler by WtP/Section One. |
One common problem with the Falcon (very similar to the ST one) is that there are two flavours of monitor that you can use with it, RGB and VGA (TVs tend to be more compatible with RGB). Graphics resolutions vary according to which monitor you have, though most modern programs adapt accordingly, many programs are only designed for one type and not the other. This is where this program comes in. Rez Fooler claims to be able to patch the system to enable programs to work on the other type of monitor. Apparently it works well with RGB monitors to run VGA only programs, but the other way around, I can't comment on, as I have a VGA monitor, and all the RGB programs I tried (demos) definately didn't work on my monitor. Try it though, it may work on your system.DISCLAIMER: I won't accept responsibilty if it damages your monitor! & |
|
Backward v3.10 by Cyrille Dupuydauby. |
Most (if not all) Falcon owners have upgraded from ST computers, and many people started off as game players, and have large collections of games. However many ST games don't like the Falcon, and fail to work. However, early in the Falcon's history, appeared this program that could convince many of these games to work (although there are a few that still don't, Civilization for instance). As it worked very well there it went though three versions as shareware, but eventually the author left the Atari market, but as he did, he released a code which enabled unregistered copies of the final version to be registered (thus making the program freeware). Recently on COMP.SYS.ATARI.ST someone appealed for the code, and although I couldn't find it, I thought why not release my copy of the program (which has been registered with the freeware code) and stick it in this section. So here it is, Backward III. |
|
Splitter v2.00 by Uncensored Software. |
If you ever share files amongst other computers using floppy disks, you probably be aware of the limitation of only being able to share files no bigger than 720K (or 1.44Mb on HD drives). This program gets around this by splitting files into chunks which can then fit onto multiple floppy disks. Versions of this program exist for most computers including PC's and Macs. |
