Alex Haslam's Playdough Recipe

This is my mum's recipe for Playdough. Now that she has retired from her job at Bush Hill Park Primary School in Enfield, she wanted to leave the recipe for the teachers and children at the school to enjoy in the future.

Ingredients

2 mugs Plain Flour
1 mug Salt
2 mugs Water
2 tablespoons Cooking Oil
4 teaspoons Cream Of Tartar
Few drops Food Colouring

Note for Americans(!): A mug is the same as a cup! :)

Method

  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a heavy bottomed saucepan.

  2. Add all liquids, gradually.

  3. Stir continously on low heat until mixture forms a soft elastic lump.

  4. Remove from pan and knead for a few minutes on your work surface.

  5. Store in a sealed polythene bag in the fridge.

This should keep for a couple of weeks or so.
